Ortho-Bionomy(R)
What can I expect from an Ortho-Bionomy session?
Where will my bodywork session take place?
Your Ortho-Bionomy session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. You will lie on a therapy table especially designed for your comfort, I have pillows to help you be as comfprtable as possible.
Must I be completely undressed?
Otho-Bionomy is performed with the client completely clothed. Please wear loose, comfortably clothing that allows movement of the body.
What parts of my body will be addressed?
A typical session will include work to your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. While Ortho-Bionomy does not have a "protocol" every session may not include the "full body" experience of other bodywork modalities. Thru discussion, we will approach areas of tension and pain and see where the body "invites" us to work so that we can provide change to old body patterns and create relief.
What will the bodywork feel like?
Areas of restricted mobility and pain are gently moved to uncover positions which bring about a lessening of pain and a feeling of comfort. The position is held and possibly exaggerated by a mild compression into the joint until the muscles release. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. We will always move towards comfort and away from pain.
What should I do during the session?
Feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. Make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. However, don't feel obligated to stay quiet, we can always talk about anything that may interest you - some people like to not think about what is happening inside their bodies during a session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.
How will I feel after the bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. It is possible to have some soreness in the first 48 hours as your nervous system adjusts to the new balance.
What are the benefits of bodywork?
Bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.
Are there any medical conditions that would make Ortho-Bionomy inadvisable?
No. However, it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. From here we can make the best decisions on how to meet your needs.
